Hibachi Grill

Hibachi is a Japanese word meaning fire (hi) bowl (bachi). The houses of nobility had charcoal fueled clay or ceramic hibachis. Today, the hibachi is a portable grill, made generally out of metal. It is advisable to invest in an expensive but long lasting hibachi of a high quality metal than in the cheaper aluminum versions. They come in both, gas and charcoal varieties. The hibachis match the flavor of their bigger counterparts, often being preferable since the heat source is closer to the food. This means that the food is cooked quicker and its original flavor better retained. Hibachis are best preferred for cooking small sized food such as kebabs and meat strips. Some hibachis come with bottom vents that help to control the heat. As with other grills, safety is a big issue. Make sure that the grill is properly placed on a sturdy surface. Do not leave the grill unattended for long since the food is much closer to the heat, and can catch fire easily. It is advisable to keep a bucket of water nearby while you grill.
